Harborlites is pleased to announce our 5th Annual "Diva Day" Young Women in Harmony Festival! The mission of this program is to introduce the skills, joy, and rewards of singing four-part harmony, barbershop style, to young women throughout Southern California and to nurture and assist choral directors in the teaching of this unique musical art form. This full day event will consist of morning and afternoon clinics and rehearsals, followed by a public performance in the evening with the Harborlites Chorus, the 2005 & 2008 Sweet Adelines International Chorus Champions. Our program is sponsored by the Sourthern California Vocal Association.
The registration fee is $20 per singer. Any female student who is currently enrolled in a high school choral music program is eligible to participate. Sweet Adelines International and Harborlites will cover the costs for all sheet music, practice tapes, rehearsal facilities, guest clinicians, and performance costumes. Lunch and dinner are included for the registered singers, chaparones and music educators.
About eight weeks prior to the festival, participants will receive sheet music and practice recordings for several songs arranged in the barbershop style that will be used as the platform for the Festival.
There will also be a clinic for music educators who would like to participate in a hands-on demonstration of how the barbershop style of music is taught and how it can be used to attract more young women into your choral music programs.
