Spring 2004

Reprint from “Way Out West” Region 21 Newsletter

As this issue of WOW goes to press, our year as Region 21 Champions is coming to a close and the Harborlites Chorus has had quite a ride. We've been so proud and honored to represent the region over this past year in the company of so many great choruses and we've been preparing diligently to serve as hostesses so every singer can focus on her own personal best performance in Phoenix.

Of course, we've been busy with much more than our preparations for Phoenix over these last few months. One of the highlights of the holiday season was singing with the Masters of Harmony on their holiday shows. Harborlites, along with our chapter quartet, Forefront, were featured on the show singing Christmas favorites. The highlight of the performance for everyone involved was when we joined with the Masters onstage to sing the combined finale. We sang several songs, culminating in the traditional version of the "Hallelujah Chorus." What a great experience!

Our concerts with the Masters of Harmony certainly put us in the holiday mood and we were eager to spread the cheer. We did our part with our annual Singing Christmas Card fundraiser as well as our traditional holiday party to officially finish the year on an "up" note!

The start of the new year brought a new focus to Harborlites as we began our work to prepare to represent this great region in Indianapolis. Everyone made their own personal New Year's resolutions to help prepare for our time on stage and we've incorporated them into a great new healthy lifestyle program called "Fitness Gold." Coaching sessions with Joni Bescos and Erin Howden are helping us along as we are learning our new music and choreography.

Beyond Phoenix and our job as Assisting Chorus we're looking forward to even more coaching with Joni and Erin as well as working with Dale Syverson in April. We're also putting together new costumes that we know will be "fabulous" for the International stage.

Harborlites is looking forward to giving a preview of our International performance to the region at the Summer "Go for the Gold" seminar along with the San Diego and Fiesta choruses, Persuasion, our 2004 Regional Champion quartet — and all those fabulous wildcard quartets that Region 21 traditionally sends to International!

Speaking of going to International...that does require some fund-raising. We hope everyone will stop by our Regional Boutique table in Phoenix and check out our wonderful items for sale, including the hot-off-the-presses Harborlites cookbook. Participate in our big-money raffle! Shop early and often!

Then, when all the contest excitement is over, be sure to stop by the Harborlites Hospitality Room on Saturday night. We hope to see you there!

In the meantime, we'd like to wish the best of luck to all the competitors in the Phoenix contest with a special extra cheer to our "own" quartets: Fourgone Conclusion, Odyssey, Premier, and Risky Business who will be competing in Phoenix as well as Commotion and Backstage Pass who will competing in the Region 11 contest. We'll see you in Phoenix as we all "Catch 21 Gold Fever!"
