Harmony rang out on the campus of Orange Coast College as 209 high school girls from 29 high schools gathered for the Harborlites Chorus fourth annual Young Women in Harmony "Diva Day" in February. With Becki Hine, director of the Song of Atlanta Chorus, as our clinician, the girls spent the day learning about barbershop harmony, rehearsing, and putting the finishing touches on the four songs they performed on an evening show. With Becki's enthusiasm and energy, she was the perfect choice to partner with our director, Pam Pieson, and our music team to plan and present an exciting day of barbershop music for these young singers.

Excitement was definitely in the air as a news crew from KABC, Channel 7, showed up to capture the event for their 5:30pm and 11:00pm news programs. We're sure many DVRs were set to "record" when the girls climbed on the risers and sang their hearts out for the world to see. Our next "Diva Day" is scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2010. You won't want to miss it!

Harborlites is busy preparing for regional chorus competition in Pasadena and would like to thank our wonderful coaches, Dale Syverson, Erin Howden, and Jeff Baker, for their incredible guidance. We were so proud of our competing quartets in Region 11's contest - Spirit, Pipe Dreams, Plan B and Top Flight - and are excited to cheer on Applause!, HighLife, Hypnotic, Orange Crush, Q.com, and Road Trip in the Region 21 competition. We wish every competitor a "peak performance!"
